About Shuanghe
Shuanghe, 'two rivers', is the city of the 5th Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps (Bingtuan), set up in 2014 inside Bortala and named after the Bortala and Jing rivers that cross its land. The division came to the Bortala valley in 1963 to open new farmland, and its regiments still farm the valley floor. The city has no listed sights of its own; visitors to the area usually head for Sayram Lake and the hot springs of Wenquan.
