Baoshan 保山Bǎoshān
Volcanoes, hot springs and jade traders on the old road to Burma

About Baoshan
Baoshan stretches west across the Nu (Salween) River and the Gaoligong Mountains, a global biodiversity hotspot, to the Myanmar border. Most visitors head for Tengchong, a jade-trading town ringed by dormant volcanoes, with the steaming vents of Rehai and the courtyard village of Heshun nearby. In 1944 Chinese troops fought to retake this frontier and reopen the Burma Road, battles remembered at the Songshan Battlefield and Guoshang Cemetery, and coffee grows in the warm Lujiang valley.
