About Wenshan
Wenshan, Yunnan's south-eastern corner on the border with Vietnam, is karst country of steep green hills, home to many Zhuang and Miao people. Its best-known sight is Puzhehei, where boats drift on lotus-filled lakes between limestone peaks, and at Bamei Village a Zhuang farming community is reached by boat through a river cave. Wenshan is also the main source of sanqi, or notoginseng, a root used in Chinese medicine and cooked into local dishes such as sanqi chicken.
