About Wenquan Cliff Inscriptions, Anning

A 200-metre stretch of cliff above the Tanglang River at Anning's hot-spring town of Wenquan, carved with more than 160 inscriptions, mostly poems and descriptions of the springs by Ming and Qing visitors. The earliest, 'Listening to the Spring', was written by He Mengchun, who became the Ming governor of Yunnan in 1521. The carvings run in three groups from the 'Nine-Bend Dragon's Nest' to the spring called the 'Finest Hot Spring under Heaven'.
