About Shennong Stream

A Yangtze tributary running about 60 km from the Shennongjia mountains through four gorges (Shennong, Mianzhu, Parrot and Longchang) to meet the river opposite Badong town. Visitors travel up the lower stream by tourist boat past cliffs with hanging coffins left by the ancient Ba people, and can try small wooden 'pea-pod' boats hauled by trackers, a practice kept going for tourism after it ended elsewhere on the Yangtze. It suits a half-day boat excursion from Badong.

How to get to Shennong Stream

Boats for the stream leave from the tourist pier in Badong county town on the Yangtze, across the river from the stream's mouth.
