About Barkol Lake

Barkol Lake, known in Han times as the Pulei Sea, is a salt lake at about 1,585 m in the western Barkol grassland, ringed by the Barkol and Moqin Ula mountains. Its northern part yields salt and its southern part mirabilite and brine shrimp, and in summer herders pitch felt tents and graze their flocks on the meadows along the shore.
