About Asbury Church (Chongwenmen Church)

Founded in 1870 by American Methodist Episcopal missionaries, Asbury Church is usually described as the oldest Protestant church in Beijing; the present grey-brick building in an eclectic style was rebuilt in 1902–04 after the earlier church was burnt in 1900. Used as a school hall from 1958, it reopened for worship in 1982 as Chongwenmen Church and is still an active congregation.
