About Pagoda of Monk Wansong

A slender nine-tier brick pagoda at the mouth of Zhuanta Hutong, first built as the Yuan-era tomb pagoda of the Chan master Wansong Xingxiu (1166–1246) and raised from seven to nine tiers in 1753. It is the only brick pagoda left in the old inner city and gave Zhuanta (Brick Pagoda) Hutong its name; in 2014 its small courtyard was opened as a public reading room run with a local bookshop.
