About Hulu (Gourd) Town, Cangyuan
A Wa-themed leisure quarter built on the edge of Cangyuan county town around Gourd Lake, with red-walled Wa-style buildings, totem carvings and large gourd sculptures recalling the Wa creation myth. Evening song-and-dance and craft workshops such as weaving and wood carving are put on for visitors. It is a modern development with no old buildings; for a traditional Wa village, go to Wengding.
How to get to Hulu (Gourd) Town, Cangyuan
On the edge of Cangyuan county town, a short taxi ride from the bus station; carry your passport, as there are police checkpoints on roads in this border area.
