About Wengding Wa Village
A Wa village in Cangyuan county long described as the most completely preserved traditional Wa settlement, with thatched stilt houses (people lived above, livestock below) and ritual posts once used in sacrifices. Fire destroyed almost all of its 105 houses in February 2021; the old village was rebuilt on the same site and reopened at the end of 2022, while most villagers now live in a new village nearby.
How to get to Wengding Wa Village
About 30 km by road from Cangyuan county town, roughly 40 minutes; carry your passport, as there are police checkpoints on roads in this border area.
