About Anyuan Temple

A Qing temple of 1764 on a hill east of the Wulie River, built for the Dashidawa, an Oirat Mongol group resettled at Rehe, and modelled on the Gurzha Temple beside the Ili River in Xinjiang, which gave it the nickname Yili Temple. The main building, the Pudu Hall, is about 27 m high and has a roof of black glazed tiles, said to guard against the fire that destroyed the original. The temple was restored in the 1980s and again in 2011.
