About Datong Drum Tower
A three-storey timber tower with triple eaves, standing on a stone base on Yongtai Street in the middle of Datong's old city. It was built in the Ming dynasty and repaired several times under the Qing; a drum once hung in the top storey to mark the hours at night. It has been open to visitors since 2012, and stone tablets recording the Qing repairs are kept under the lower eaves.
