About Longtan Park

A city park laid out around the eastern of the three Longtan lakes, dug in 1952 to drain marshy ground in south-east Beijing, and opened as Longtan Park in 1984. Its islands, bridges and pavilions are themed on the dragon, with spots such as a Dragon Gate and a Dragon Pavilion, and the grounds also hold a shrine to the late-Ming general Yuan Chonghuan. It is an everyday neighbourhood park rather than a historic site, handy for a stroll after the Temple of Heaven next door.

How to get to Longtan Park

In south-eastern Dongcheng District just east of the Temple of Heaven, about 15 minutes' walk from Tiantan Dongmen station on Metro Line 5.
