About Tongtian Rock

A red-sandstone (Danxia) hill in Shuixi town, north-west of Ganzhou, whose caves and niches hold hundreds of Buddhist statues and well over a hundred inscriptions from the Song dynasty to the Republic, among them Wang Yangming's. Most of the carvings are Song, apart from a few standing Buddhas at Cuiwei Rock that date from the Tang. It is described as the southernmost grotto complex in mainland China and as the largest cave temple in the Jiangnan region.
