About Pagoda of Cishou Temple

A 13-storey octagonal brick pagoda about 50 m tall, built in 1576 by the Wanli Emperor for his mother, Empress Dowager Cisheng; the temple around it burned down in the late Qing, leaving the pagoda standing alone. Its base is carved with flying apsaras, Buddhas and musical instruments, more than 3,000 iron bells hang from its eaves, and since 1989 it has been the centrepiece of the small Linglong Park.
