About Zhenjue Temple

Better known as the Five Pagoda Temple, Zhenjue Temple keeps one of China's earliest surviving 'diamond throne' stupas, completed in 1473 and inspired by the Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya: a 7.7-metre stone platform carved with rows of Buddhas, with a chamber and stairs inside and five small pagodas on top. The temple's other buildings were lost to a late-Qing fire and a sale in 1927, and the grounds now house the Beijing Stone Carving Art Museum.
