About Xilitu Zhao

Xilitu Zhao, also called Yanshou Temple (a name given by the Kangxi Emperor), is a Gelug Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Hohhot's old town, founded in the late 16th century. It covers about 13,000 sq m, and its large main sutra hall combines Han and Tibetan architecture. From 1708 its Xilitu Living Buddha usually held the senior monastic post in Qing-dynasty Guihua, and the temple remains an active place of worship.
