About Dongyue Temple, Jian'ou

A temple to the god of the Eastern Peak (Mount Tai) outside the old east gate of Jian'ou, facing the Jian River with Baihe Hill behind it. Rebuilt in 1672 and repaired many times since, the complex covers about 2.7 hectares, with a gate, front hall, opera stage and halls to the Eastern Peak god, the Empress (Niangniang), Guanyin and the Medicine Buddha. The main hall is five bays wide under a double-eaved hip-and-gable roof.
