About Kaifeng City Wall
Kaifeng's Qing-dynasty city wall, rebuilt in grey brick in 1842 after a Yellow River flood, still runs for 14.4 km around the old city and is among the longest surviving city walls in China. Its circuit goes back to the Tang city of Bianzhou, rebuilt in 781, and roughly matches the inner city of the Northern Song capital. Its gate towers are modern reconstructions, the best known being the Daliang Gate on the west side, rebuilt in 1998.
How to get to Kaifeng City Wall
The wall encircles Kaifeng's old city; the Daliang Gate on the west side, a short taxi ride from the centre, is the easiest place to see it.
