About Yanqing Temple (Jade Emperor Pavilion)
A Taoist temple of the Quanzhen school founded in 1233 where its founder Wang Chongyang died in 1170, renamed Yanqing Guan in 1373 and repeatedly destroyed by floods and war. Its one old building is the Jade Emperor Pavilion, an 18 m brick tower imitating timber in Yuan style, square below with a domed, yurt-like chamber holding a bronze statue of Zhenwu, and an eight-sided pavilion on top sheltering a white-marble Jade Emperor. Sunk in a waterlogged pit after it was dug out of flood silt in 1984, the pavilion was jacked up by more than 3 m in 2010, and an exhibition hall beneath it explains the temple's history and the lifting.
