About Xigong Barracks

A modern-style barracks begun in 1914 under Yuan Shikai and greatly enlarged by the warlord Wu Peifu after 1920, which in the war against Japan served as headquarters of the First War Zone. The surviving core includes the headquarters courtyard, the two-storey house Wu Peifu built as his office, a study built in 1939 in the style of Yan'an cave dwellings and the remains of an old bridge over the Luo River. Since 2021 it has housed the Luoyang War of Resistance Memorial Hall, whose exhibition presents the Communist-led resistance in western Henan with photographs, documents and objects.
