About Leal Senado Building
Macau's original city hall of 1784, still the seat of the municipal affairs bureau, on Senado Square, with a name (Loyal Senate) taken from a title given by the Portuguese king in 1654. The neoclassical building has a granite-columned entrance, blue-and-white tile panels by the main staircase and a courtyard garden at the back, with a council chamber, a small chapel and a carved library modelled on that of the Mafra Convent on the first floor. The IAM Gallery in the lobby shows art and cultural exhibitions when one is on, and the courtyard garden can be visited.
