About St. Augustine's Church

Part of the Historic Centre of Macau, St. Augustine's Church (Igreja de Santo Agostinho) was founded by Spanish Augustinians in 1591 and has had its present form since 1874. Its plain neoclassical facade contrasts with a richer interior of nave, high choir and sacristy. Local Chinese call it the Temple of the Long-whiskered Dragon, after the palm leaves once used to patch its roof, and the church organises an annual Way of the Cross procession, one of the most popular in the city.
