About Hongshan Forest Zoo

A zoo of about 68 hectares spread over three wooded hills in northern Nanjing, Xiao Hongshan, Da Hongshan and Fangniu Shan, which opened in 1998 when the old Xuanwu Lake Zoo moved here. It keeps more than 3,000 animals of over 260 species in hillside enclosures, among them giant pandas, golden snub-nosed monkeys, South China tigers, Asian elephants, giraffes and red-crowned cranes, and runs a rescue centre for injured native wildlife. It ended animal performances in 2011 and stopped visitors feeding the animals in 2014.
