About Tianyi Ge and Moon Lake
Tianyi Ge, built in 1561–1566 by the official Fan Qin, is the oldest surviving private library in China, a two-storey book tower with a fire-pond in front and a rockery garden. The museum around it adds the Fan family residence, a forest of steles and the Qin clan hall, and the library's layout was copied for the imperial libraries built to hold the Siku Quanshu. Next door, Moon Lake, dug in the Tang, is a park of islands, bridges and restored historic houses in the heart of the city.
