About Eliot Hall and May Hall, University of Hong Kong

Two three-storey red-brick halls opened in 1914 and 1915 as student residences, designed by Denison, Ram and Gibbs and named after Sir Charles Eliot and Sir Francis Henry May. Their facades combine curved pediments, rusticated columns, Chinese-style ceramic grilles and balconies under double-tiled Chinese roofs. During the Battle of Hong Kong in December 1941, Eliot Hall served as a relief hospital and May Hall as the main residence for staff and students.
