About Caoxieshan Archaeological Site Park
A Neolithic settlement near Yangcheng Lake, first inhabited about 6,000 years ago, whose deep layers record the Majiabang, Songze and Liangzhu cultures in one continuous sequence. Digs uncovered carbonised rice, early textile fragments and a Liangzhu grave with jade cong, and in 1992–1995 Chinese and Japanese archaeologists found paddy fields with irrigation channels from about 6,000 years ago. An archaeological park opened here in 2022 with displays of finds, reconstructed prehistoric paddies and excavated remains.
