About Taiyuan Confucian Temple
The Confucian temple of Taiyuan prefecture, rebuilt in 1882 by the governor Zhang Zhidong on part of the burnt-out Chongshan Temple site after a Fen River flood destroyed the earlier temple. The red-walled compound runs along a central axis through a screen wall, the Lingxing gate, a pond, the Dacheng Gate and Dacheng Hall to a rear shrine hall. It now houses the Shanxi Archaeology Museum, the museum of the provincial institute of archaeology.
