About Former Qianxiangyi Silk Store

A silk and cloth store built in 1913–17 on Guyi Street in the old city for the Meng family of Zhangqiu, Shandong, one of the old 'Eight Xiang' shops of Tianjin. The building is a three-courtyard brick-and-timber structure in a mixed Chinese and Western style, with carved doors and a verandah gallery. When Guyi Street was rebuilt in 2000 it was the only listed building kept, and since its restoration in 2002 it has housed a tea house that stages crosstalk and other storytelling performances.
