About Signal Tower at Blackhead Point
The Signal Tower in Signal Hill Garden was built in 1907 by the Hong Kong Observatory to house a time-ball apparatus, whose copper ball was dropped at set times each day so that ships and the public could check the time. It is a red-brick building with carved granite details in a Classical Baroque design with Edwardian touches, and a storey was added in 1927 to make it easier to see from the harbour. The time-ball service ended in 1933, and the tower is now a landmark of the garden.
