About Pingxiang
Pingxiang is a coal city on the Hunan border: the Anyuan colliery, set up in 1898 to supply the Hanyang Iron Works, was the scene of a famous miners' strike in 1922. Visitors come instead for Wugong Shan, where a granite ridge rises through alpine meadows and a sea of cloud to the 1,918-metre Baihe Peak, and for Yangqi Shan, where the Yangqi school of Chan Buddhism began in the 1040s.
