About Zhongyue Temple

The temple of the god of Mount Song, the Central Sacred Peak, where emperors had sacrifices offered; it traces its origins to the Qin dynasty, and its present buildings are Qing reconstructions after a fire at the end of the Ming. The walled precinct of about 11 hectares has some 400 bays of gates and halls on a long axis, more than 300 old cypresses and more than 100 steles and cast pieces, including Song-dynasty iron guardian figures and Han-dynasty stone figures. It is still a Taoist temple and is one of the Historic Monuments of Dengfeng inscribed as a World Heritage site in 2010.
