About Red Building of Peking University
Completed in 1918 as the main building of Peking University, this red-brick block was a centre of the New Culture and May Fourth movements: Li Dazhao ran the university library here, and the young Mao Zedong worked in it as a library assistant in 1918–19. It now houses the New Culture Movement Memorial of Beijing, part of the Beijing Lu Xun Museum, with restored rooms such as Li Dazhao's office and a newspaper reading room, and exhibitions on the period and on early Communist activity in Beijing.
