About Sheung Yiu Village

Sheung Yiu is a Hakka village built in the 19th century by the Wong clan, who came from Bao'an in Guangdong, on a raised platform inside Sai Kung Country Park. Its row of eight houses, drying terrace and watchtower over the entrance have been restored as the Sheung Yiu Folk Museum, furnished with farming tools and period furniture, and the village's lime kiln has also been restored for viewing. The village prospered by burning lime for mortar and fertiliser until modern bricks and cement undercut the trade.
