About Old Pathological Institute
A red-brick Edwardian building opened in 1906 as the first purpose-built public health and medical laboratory in Hong Kong, set up to help control plague and other infectious diseases. Its arcaded verandahs, balconies and double-layer Chinese tiled roof adapt Western design to the subtropical climate, and the parapet carries a Dutch gable with obelisk-shaped finials. Since 1996 it has housed the Hong Kong Museum of Medical Sciences, which covers the history of medicine in the city.
