About Early Modern Buildings of Hankou

A group of European-style banks, consulates and company offices along Yanjiang Avenue and the streets behind it, dating from the decades after Hankou opened as a treaty port in 1861 and five foreign powers took concessions here. The listing covers the former German consulate, the HSBC and Yokohama Specie Bank buildings and the 1909 water tower, with five more buildings added in 2019, among them the former Russo-Chinese Bank. Most are still offices or banks and are best seen from the street, though a few have museums inside.
