About Tucheng Old Town

A former trading port on the Chishui River, where the Red Army fought a heavy battle in January 1935 and made its first crossing of the river. Its old streets and ferry crossing hold a series of Long March sites, including former residences of Mao Zedong, Zhou Enlai, Zhu De and Liu Bocheng, a Red Army salt store and several small museums, among them those of the women soldiers of the Red Army and of Chishui River shipping. The national heritage listing, the battle sites of the Four Crossings of the Chishui, also covers the Erlangtan and Maotai ferries and Loushan Pass; twelve of its sites are at Tucheng.
