About Zhengding County Confucian Temple

The county Confucian temple in Zhengding old town, whose main hall, the Dacheng Hall, is regarded as the oldest surviving Confucian temple hall in China. The county gazetteer gives a Ming date of 1374, but its five bays, hip-and-gable roof and heavy bracket sets point to the late Tang or Five Dynasties. The site also keeps a screen wall, a Pan Pool, a gate hall and side halls, and the separate prefectural Confucian temple stands nearby.
