About Lingxiao Pagoda

A nine-storey, eight-sided pagoda about 41 m high, the main surviving building of the former Tianning Temple in the old town of Zhengding. The lower storeys are brick and the upper ones timber, with a timber central pillar running up the inside, a structure that is uncommon among China's surviving pagodas. A crypt found beneath it in 1982 showed that it was begun in the Tang dynasty between 756 and 779, and it was rebuilt in 1045 and again in 1141.
