About Jinshan, Jiaoshan and Beigushan

Zhenjiang's three classic Yangtze hills are managed as one scenic area but are separate parks several kilometres apart. Jinshan, a former island joined to the south bank by silt in the late Qing, is covered by Jinshan Temple, the setting of the Legend of the White Snake, and topped by the Cishou Pagoda, while Jiaoshan, reached by a short ferry, holds Dinghui Temple and the Jiaoshan Stele Museum, whose more than 400 inscribed stones include fragments of the 'Eulogy on Burying a Crane' cliff inscription. On Beigushan stand Ganlu Temple, linked in legend to Liu Bei's marriage, and its iron pagoda, whose base and lower storeys date from the Song dynasty.

How to get to Jinshan, Jiaoshan and Beigushan

Jinshan is about 2.5 km north-west of Zhenjiang railway station and Beigushan about 3 km north-east of it; Jiaoshan lies about 3.5 km further east, reached by a short ferry from its south gate that stops in high wind, so allow a day and take taxis between the three.
