About Huai Army Hall
Built in 1888 at the request of Li Hongzhang, then Viceroy of Zhili, as a memorial shrine and headquarters for his Huai Army, this compound mixes Huizhou-style halls from Anhui in its south-east, northern courtyards in its north-east and a landscaped garden in the west. Part of the central axis became a shrine to Li Hongzhang himself in 1902. Its old theatre building survives, and the compound is run as the Baoding Huai Army Hall Museum.
