About Former Shanxi Provincial Third Middle School

A school campus built between 1918 and 1921 on the Shili River west of Datong, in a blend of Chinese and Western styles, and used for schools until recently. The buildings stand on a north–south axis: a gate and office building, a large auditorium shaped like a reclining elephant, twelve identical classrooms arranged in a square, and a library and laboratory at the back. Most of the original structures survive.
