About Yi Tai Study Hall

Yi Tai Study Hall in Shui Tau Village, Kam Tin, was built in the Daoguang reign (1821–1850) by 16 local scholar-gentry to house statues of Man Cheong, god of literature, and Kwan Tai, god of martial arts, which had been worshipped in a nearby pagoda. It became an important academy and later a primary school, which closed after the Second World War. The grey-brick and rammed-earth building has its main entrance on the side between the two halls, probably for feng shui reasons, and a forecourt paved with white stones.
