About Longxing Temple
A Buddhist temple founded in 586 under the Sui dynasty and enlarged by order of the first Northern Song emperor, laid out along a long north–south axis and counted among the earliest, largest and best-preserved temple complexes in China. Its highlights are the Mani Hall of 1052, cross-shaped in plan with a gabled porch on each side and a hanging-sculpture Guanyin inside, the revolving sutra cabinet, and the Great Compassion Pavilion with its very large bronze thousand-armed Guanyin of the Song period. The architect Liang Sicheng surveyed the complex in 1933 and rated it the finest temple outside Beijing.
