About Hong Kong Observatory

The Hong Kong Observatory was established in 1883 and became the Royal Observatory in 1912, and its 1883 Building stands on a small hill off Nathan Road. It is a two-storey Victorian-Colonial block of plastered brick with arched windows and long verandas, declared a monument in 1984, and it now houses the directorate's offices while forecasting work has moved to newer buildings nearby. The Observatory describes its grounds as home to plants and wildlife that are uncommon in Hong Kong.

How to get to Hong Kong Observatory

On a small hill off Nathan Road, a short walk from Tsim Sha Tsui and Jordan MTR stations. The Antiquities and Monuments Office runs docent tours that take in the 1883 Building and the Former Kowloon British School, while the Observatory's own public visits are suspended until further notice, so check before going.
